It is a Woody Allen movie. But it is plain and much less interesting than some other his old movies. For some moments while watching, I was so bored about the dialogues and story itself that started to pay attention to some scenes from photography perspective.
I was intrigued by the beginning of the movie. Two young America women, share similar opinions on most matters, but they are very different when it comes to the subject of love. So I figured the movie was about love. That’s good. Because it is a Woody Allen movie, so I also figured it would not be just about love. That’s also good. Then it turned out to be a story which is so predictable that nothing surprising came out. That is not good. The only thing, which reminded me of that fact that it is still a Woody Allen movie, is the ending that Vicky and Cristina came back to the US after spending summer in Spain. Vicky is married to the guy she planned to marry and is having a life as she has always planned; but she is not as happy. Cristina is still uncertain what she wants from life or love, only sure of what she doesn’t want; she is probably even more confused. Pretty much, they end where they started. It is a bit ironic.
Woody often said in his interviews or movies, it is sad that you have many to express but no talent to do. I wonder why he kept emphasizing this. It is not necessarily sad, and it can be more exciting than having nothing inside. In this movie, it is sad or a bit disappointing to me that you thought you had figured out something for you life, after going through thin, but ended up confused and unhappy. But no need to worry about Vicky or Cristina. They may be confused or unhappy and their decisions may have seemed overly rational or overly irrational. But that’s who they are. They would be probably even more confused or unhappy if they had chosen different paths for their life.
